Marmalade only exists because your memories deserve somewhere private. This page explains, in normal human words, exactly what we collect, who else ever touches it, and what we never do with it.

No ads, no trackers, no data brokers. You're never the product.

Only what the app genuinely needs to work. Here is the whole list, in plain terms.
When paid plans open, subscriptions will be handled by Apple's App Store and Google Play, with RevenueCat as the service that tells the app which plan you are on. Your card details go to Apple or Google and never to us. We never see them.
We don't track you across other apps or the web. We don't build advertising profiles. We don't sell, rent or trade your information to anyone. We don't sit and read your journal, and nothing you write is used to train an AI model. Marmalade has no ad network, and it never will.
There are exactly two moments when an automated system looks at your content, both described in "Sharing" below, and neither of them can touch anything you keep to yourself.
Your photos, videos and voice notes are stored in a private Cloudflare R2 bucket, filed under your account and reachable only through short-lived signed links that the app requests one at a time. The app itself never holds the keys to that storage. Your entries, places and account details live in a Supabase database. Everything is encrypted in transit and encrypted at rest.
We take a backup of the database every night so that a failure on our side cannot lose your writing. Those backups are encrypted, stored in the same private Cloudflare account, generated by an automated job running on GitHub's servers, and deleted automatically after fourteen days.
How long we keep it. Your files stay until you remove them, with only two exceptions, and both are set out in full in our Terms. Photos you added to a memory you never saved are cleared after roughly seven days, because they are not attached to anything. And if your account sits over its storage limit for 30 days after we have warned you, the oldest media is removed, only as much of it as is needed to bring you back inside your plan. The memories themselves are never deleted, and other people's copies are never touched. If that ever happens we keep a record of which files were removed and when, so you can ask us what went. That record holds file names, sizes and dates rather than the files.
Nothing you save is public by default, and nothing is shown to another Marmalade user unless you have deliberately shared it with them.
We would rather name these than hide them behind the words "trusted partners". Each one gets the minimum needed to do its job, under an agreement that stops it using anything for its own purposes. This list is current as of 14 August 2026.
Some of these providers are based outside your country, so your information may be processed elsewhere, always under the protections that apply to international transfers.
You can access, correct, export or delete your information at any time from inside the app, or by emailing us. Depending on where you live, laws like the GDPR and the CCPA give you these rights explicitly, but honestly, we'd offer them anyway. It's your life. You're in charge of it.
Exporting. "Export all my memories" in the app writes everything to your own device or computer. Photos, videos, voice notes and thumbnails at full original quality, plus a file containing your entries, moods, dates, places and coordinates. Nobody reviews or screens it, it goes straight to you.
Deleting. Deleting your account erases your files from our storage, hard deletes your private memories and their contents rather than just hiding them, dissolves or leaves your plan, and strips your name, email and picture from your profile and your login.
Three honest exceptions, because "gone" should mean what it says.
Marmalade is made for adults and is not intended for anyone under 18. We don't market it to children and we don't knowingly collect their information. If you believe someone under 18 has created an account, tell us and we'll remove it.
If we ever update this policy, we'll change the date at the top and, for anything meaningful, tell you directly rather than burying it. Continued use after an update means you're okay with the new version.
