Delete it from the app

This is the fastest way and it takes about ten seconds.

• Open Marmalade and go to Profile.
• Scroll to the bottom and tap Delete my account.
• Confirm when the app asks. It will not ask twice.

Deletion runs immediately. If it is interrupted, nothing is left half deleted, running it again picks up where it stopped.

Delete it by email

If you have already uninstalled the app, or you cannot sign in, write to support@marmalade-memories.com from the email address on your account and ask us to delete it.

We will confirm it is you, delete the account, and write back to tell you it is done. We aim to do this within seven days and it is usually the same day.

What gets erased

Deleting your account is not a hidden flag on a row somewhere. It removes the content itself.

• Every photo, video, voice note and thumbnail you uploaded, deleted from our storage.
• Your private memories and everything in them, hard deleted rather than hidden. Titles, notes, moods, dates, tags, activities, weather and the coordinates saved with each one.
• Your trips and chapters.
• Your plan. If you were sharing a journal with someone, it is dissolved or you are removed from it.
• Your name, your email address and your profile picture, stripped from both your profile and your login.

What is kept, and for how long

Three honest exceptions, because "gone" should mean what it says.

• Memories you shared with someone. If you shared a memory on a shared journal and the other person still has it, their copy survives. It is their copy of a shared moment as much as yours. Your name comes off it.
• Encrypted backups, up to fourteen days. We back the database up nightly so a failure on our side cannot lose anyone's writing. Your data sits inside those backups until they age out automatically, which takes a maximum of fourteen days. Nobody reads them.
• An empty record of the account. A scrubbed shell is kept rather than destroyed, so that shared history does not break for the person you shared it with. It holds no name, no email address and no content.

If you also joined the waitlist on this website, that is a separate list holding your email address and which phone you use. Ask us at support@marmalade-memories.com and we will remove you from it.

Deleting only some things

You do not have to delete your whole account to remove something. Any memory can be deleted on its own from inside the app, along with its photos, videos and voice notes, and any trip can be deleted without touching the memories inside it.

Before you go, "Export all my memories" in the app writes everything to your own device at full original quality. It is worth doing first, because deletion cannot be undone.
